442/415Hz, maple, two middle joints
Sylvestro Ganassi describes in his 1535 Venice published work „La Fontegara“, which is a course book about diminution, how he accomplished to expanding the common pitch range of a recorder up to 1 ½ octaves through a special fingering. It is debated whether he referred to a certain recorder type.
Only a few conserved insturments form this time allow through their construction, to play more than just single tunes of the „Ganassi-fingering“,
the most well-known of those is an alto recorder in the art-history museum of Vienna. Reconstructions of this instrument allow a relatively easy pitch range of over 2 octaves.
Characteristic for this recorder design is the cylindrical internal bore with a wide expansive bell at the lower end.
They have a powerful, robust sound, which becomes especially clear and radiant in its heights.
