treble recorder (g) Peter van der Poel Ganassi, 442/466 Hz, maple

Sylvestro Ganassi describes in his 1535 in Venice published work „la Fontegara“, a coursebook for diminution, how he accomplished with certain fingering to expand the pitch range of a recorder common at that time substantially about 1 ½ octaves. It is controversial if he refered to a certain recorder type by that. Only few instruments from that time allow by their construction to play more than only few tones of the „Ganassi-fingering“, the most well-known of which is in the art-history museum in Vienna.

Reconstructions of this instrument allow a relatively effortless pitch range of more over 2 octaves. The cylindric internal bore with wide expanding bell at the lower joint is characteristic for the design of these recorders. The have a powerful, robust sound especially clear and radiant in all pitches.

The finest handcrafted early-baroque soprano recorder- also called Ganassi recorder- with two lower joints in a=442 Hz and 415 Hz is made of maple.

For maintenance and to conserve the beautiful sound it is neccessary to regularly oil the recorder.
