The alphabet de la Musique, of which the following sonatas are taken from, ranges among Schickhardts didactical works. The alphabet leads through all 24 pitches and is meant for traverse flute, violin or recorder, where it should be mentioned that the instruments are treated differently according to their pitches. The way that the recorder is meant for "easier" pitches, which suggests that these were meant for the recorder playing amateur.
