Hall, Henry - A Dialogue on the Death of Henry Purcell - Sopran, Bass, 2 Blockflöten und Bc.

Henry Purcells sudden and unexpected death on the 21st of November 1695 in an age of 36 years shocked Londons art- and culture scene. In only few weeks several musics were written and performed in remembrance of Purcell. Three of these works are have been conserved till today, one of them the presented „dialog“ for soprano, bass, two recorders and basso continuo. The most important source- British Library, Add. MS 30934- contains a note in William Crofts handwriting that this work was performed on the stage of the Druery Lane theatre, probably even in a staged form, with the singers dressed as shepherds. Halls work is a dialog between a shepherd and shepherdess.
