The Garklein recorder is with its length of 16-17 cm the very smallest playable instrument of the recorder family.
It plays on the deepest tune c³, the pitch range is c³-d5(g5). Its name comes from the first organology, the Syntagna Musicum, which was written 1619 by Michael Praetorius. The “Garkleinflötlein” is mostly used in recorder ensembles to enhance the sound colour
