The bass recorder lies in its tuning one octave below the alto recorder and is therefore in f. Michael Praetorius calls this recorder in its 1619 published organology 'Syntagma musicum' simply “Basset”. It find special use in recorder quartets and – quintets or in bigger ensemble with the recorder orchestra. Furthermore the bass recorder is gladly used in the solo literature of the Avant-garde and in Broken Consort.
This recorder is in most cases produced by machine, in the baroque as well as the renaissance design.
We have a great number of selected bass recorders in maple, pear wood, cherry wood or prune from different manufacturers and in different executions- with and without blowing pipe, straight for direct blowing or as angled bass, ready to be played.
