Banchieri, Adriano - Canzoni alla Francese - SATB

Banchieri's Canzoni from 1596 are available in four original parts (CANTO, ALTO, TENORE and BASSO).
The canzonas almost always follow the usual pattern, with the theme being introduced in one voice and carried through all the voices. However, there are many homophonic sections that are very madrigal-like.
This edition is designed for four recorders (SATB), so not all of the canzonas from the original were suitable, as some of them are very wide in range. All of them have been transposed up an octave to suit the 4-foot range of the recorders, and some then had to be transposed down again to make them playable for SATB: Canzon Ottava (down a fourth), Canzon Decima (down a fourth).
These six canzonas are easy to play and have a very rich sound; they should be part of every consort's repertoire.
