This is the only surviving piece of music from the 16th century outside of courtly music. Blancks lived in London and was described by Francis Meres as an ‘excellent musician’ (‘Palladis Tamia’, London, 1598). This edition for recorder quintet (SSATB) contains the fantasia in two clefs (each as score and individual parts): a great opportunity to familiarise yourself with original clefs for this rather straightforward composition.
