The presented work comes from Frescobaldis collection of twelve Capriccies for key-instruments, that was published 1624 in Rom under the title IL PRIMO LIBRO / DI CAPRICCI / FATTI SOPRA / DIVERSI SOGGETTI; ET / ARIE IN PARTITURA DI / GIROLAMO / FRESCOBALDI / ..., in an editing for four recorders by Eric Fiedler. With his Capriccio sopra La-sol-fa-re-mi Frescobaldi continues a long tradition of instrumental fantasies over abstract Hexachord-motives, that were broadly spread especially in England and the Netherlands in the 16th and 17th century.
