Telemann, Georg Philipp - ouverture F-dur - AATB / Bc

The autographical score (originally in E-flat-major) of this appealing composition indicates the first part with "Flûte Pastorelle", an instrument, science is however unclear about. Edgar Hunt asks, if this is even supposed to be a recorder , or rather a panpipe. In fact the recorder-part in the presented overture is technically not very sophisticated and uses only the scale-own tune-repertoire. Also the- for Telemann untypical small Ambitus supports Hunts suggestion, that the "Flûte Pastorelle"- literally: The shepherds flute, should be the flute of the shepherds god Pan, so the panpipe. Through the mainly deep pitch of the solo-voice it suggests a performance on a sopranino recorder in f ``. The overture sounds brilliantly with a clear recorder-quartet, but with basso continuo even more beautiful. A complete Faksimile of the scores is included in the edition.
