East, Michael - Band 5 - Blockflötentrio

Das für diese Ausgabe zu Grunde liegende fünfte Buch (The fift [!] set of bookes, wherein are songs full of spirit and delight, so composed in 3. parts, that they are as apt for vyols as voyces ) von Michael East (um 1580 - 1648) besteht aus drei Stimmbüchern Cantus, Quintus und Bassus. Das Bezeichnung Quintus ließe annehmen, dass es sich eigentlich um fünfstimmige Kompositionen handeln würde, aber die Struktur sagt deutlich, dass dem nicht so ist. East wollte wohl damit ausdrücken, dass es eben einen zweiten Sopran gibt, der häufig in mehr als vierstimmiger Musik als Quintus bezeichnet wurde. Vom Tonumfang eignet sich diese Ausgabe für drei Blockflöten (SSA oder TTB).
